TIDA Member Spotlight

The TIDA Member Spotlight will feature one member each month. The spotlighted member will share responses to interesting questions and non-work related photos to build connections among new and seasoned members. Anyone may propose a member to be spotlighted. The committee will alternate each month between industry and legal professionals to increase engagement among our organization. Members can nominate themselves or another member to be featured by sending your recommendation to Megan Early-Soppa, Member Communications Committee Chair.

December 2022

Lesley Pfleging, Lewis Wagner, LLP

I work at Lewis Wagner in Indianapolis in a building built in 1920, which later received a facelift in 2020, and our team moved here in June 2021.  I live with my husband and two girls in Fishers, which is just north of Indy.  My girls are 6 and 8.  They are interested in all things soccer, every Disney movie ever made, eating serious amounts of candy, and begging me to adopt more dogs.  I’m grateful for the hiking and ski trips we take as a family every year.

How long have you been a member of TIDA and why is it important to you to be a member?

This is my inaugural year! I was fortunate enough to attend and present at the annual seminar in Orlando this year.  My goal for attending any industry event is to learn something new, and TIDA has not disappointed in that regard!  My impression before joining TIDA was that TIDA members practice at the 401 - level courses, not the introductory 101 – level courses, and with the depth of this membership that is clearly the case.  I look forward to learning more and more from TIDA members.

If you could collaborate with anyone, who would it be? Why?

My step father, who passed away in 2018 from ALS.  David was one of those people that maintained a strong work ethic, showed an inner strength based upon trustworthiness, wisdom and listening and balanced perspective on all things in life.  I miss our dinner conversations, the chats while I would be sitting in rush hour traffic, and the distilled life lessons he would convey to me effortlessly.  I relied on him for professional, parental, and life advice; perhaps he was my unpaid therapist.

To date, what has been the most memorable case you have been involved? Why?

Recently, I resolved an admitted liability truck on truck case just before trial that I have been involved with since suit was filed in 2017.  Countless trees, sleep, and hours were sacrificed over the past 5 years.  Our case was set and reset for trial 4 different times during COVID, and we all felt exhausted by the start/stop nature of the last minute continuances before trial.  The day the case resolved, I was genuinely in shock.  Now that I am able to reflect on the experience, I am grateful for my team members that supported me both professionally and emotionally along the journey.   Likewise, I am grateful for the lessons I learned, which is what I think most of us draw upon for ‘that’ memorable case – whether it’s a migraine or not – we gain valuable lessons in the law, patience, and working with various personalities.

What advice would give to your 25-year old self?

Relax Lesley!  Everything is not a ‘thing’ unless you make it into a ‘thing.’  Flexibility can be a good thing.

Where would I travel if there was a chance I could be there for up to a year?

Any place with mountains and sunshine so I could ski.  Of course, I would need that winning lottery ticket to support my ski and apres ski habits.
