TIDA 2018 Board of Directors Elections

Several positions on the Trucking Industry Defense Association’s (TIDA) Board of Directors are available for your consideration and vote at the Annual Seminar in Austin, Texas in October.  

Elections will be held for three (4) attorney seats and one (2) industry seat. 


Four (4) Attorney Positions:

  • Donna Burden – seeking re-election
  • Kevin Chignell – seeking re-election
  • Dana Hoffman – board term expiring; not seeking re-election 
  • John Spiros – board term expiring; not seeking re-election 


Two (2) Industry Position:

  • Doug Betkowski – seeking re-election
  • Tony Sarchet -  board term expiring; not seeking re-election 


Each of the Board seats is for one three-year term, starting October 2018 and ending at the Annual Seminar in 2021. A Board member may serve a maximum of three terms. No Board seat may serve more than nine years. 

Any TIDA member in good standing may be nominated by another TIDA member in good standing.

  • Attorney members in good standing are eligible for the attorney seats.
  • TIDA members in good standing who are employees of trucking companies or insurance companies are eligible for nomination for the industry seat.


Nominations are to be submitted to TIDA Headquarters at and received on or before Aug. 31, 2018, nominations will be officially closed at the end of the day.  The membership will be advised of the nominees for Board positions prior to the elections.


The Board of Directors election will be held at the General Membership meeting on Thursday, Oct. 4, 2018. There are no nominations from the floor at the meeting according to the TIDA by-laws.


What are your obligations as a Board Member?


Board members remain actively involved in the management of TIDA activities through frequent emails, conference calls and meetings. Board members also actively participate on various committees and complete projects developed by the Board. The Board meetings usually take place on the afternoon after the Annual Seminar concludes, the day before the Advanced Seminar begins, and once a year thereafter on Saturday during the summer.


If elected, you should be prepared to change your travel plans so you can attend the board meeting on Friday, Oct. 5 at 12:30 p.m. which will be held after the Annual Seminar.


Nominations are due Friday, May 18.
